The purpose of this study is to interpret the basis for prejudice elementary school teachers experience towards the children of North Korean defectors. Through a case study, researchers conducted an in-depth interview with four elementary school teachers who had taught North Korean refugee students. A total of 186 semantic units containing subjective experiences connected with prejudice were identified through the in-depth interviews. From among these semantic units, 62 units were excluded as they were duplicated, which left 124 sematic units of prejudice identified in this study. These sematic units of prejudice were reconstructed according to themes for each of the participants. In each interview teachers recalled their experiences revealing different themes: Teacher A stated ‘as like their sister’; teacher B said ‘expectation and novelty ’ and ‘adaptation to pain’; C spoke out ‘others tongue’, ‘overcome through experience’ and ‘new recognition of manifestation’; and D presented ‘my past vestiges’, ‘one´s responsibility as an experienced hand’. Most interviewees had optimistically changed their idea on the refugee students through their educational experience. As the teachers recognized the different conditions the children experience, they argued it is necessary to respect and support these students. According to this result, researchers stated followed suggestions for education of the North Korean refugee children. First, pre-teacher and teacher training may deal with the reality of the North Korean refugee residents and their children. Also, the training should be revised to include experiential learning methods (like a simulation, theatre of situations and living as a minority), because it plays an important role. Second, educational support should consider the needs of the North Korean refugee parents and children.
